Celebrating cultural diversity

Every year on August 20th the Vondelpark in Amsterdam becomes the scene of the commemoration of the racist murder of Kerwin Duijnmeijer. After the memorial service, festival Melting Pop will take place. With this festival the organisation (Platform Stop Racisme en Uitsluiting) wants to emphasize the positive influence that cultural diversity has on our society: how dull would this country be without it? What exactly is the ‘Dutch identity’? And: how beautiful is the dance and music produced by a multi-cultural society?

In a time where racial and cultural discrimination is still an every day reality worldwide (even in The Netherlands), where fear of cultural differences still spark much hatred and violence, to us this event seems like a very good initiative. With music as our weapon, oppression and social inequality is exactly what we are fighting against. As a multi-cultural combination of identities ourselves we were asked to headline the festival.

The festival program also consists of comedy, dance performances, theater, films, interesting speakers and several other bands. Melting Pop will take place on August 20 at 19:00 on ‘de Speelweide’ in Vondelpark, Amsterdam. We hope you will come and celebrate cultural diversity with us!

Un abrazo.
